NEVADA HEALTH SERVICE CORPS
PROGRAM HISTORY/DEVELOPMENT
Established in 1989 by the Nevada Legislature, this program provides loan repayment for health professionals. The federal National Health Service Corps program has contributed matched funding since inception in addition to community contributions that have supported scholars.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Nevada Health Service Corps is a loan repayment program for a variety of health and dental professionals. A participant practitioner engages in full-time clinical practice in an assigned community, for a minimum of two years, in exchange for loan repayment funds.

PROGRAM STATISTICS AND OUTCOME MEASURES
- Over 2 million dollars disbursed to participants through a combination of state, federal, and community funds.
- 87 practitioners funded:
- 24 physicians
- 5 dentists
- 35 physician assistants
- 10 nurse practitioners
- 2 nurse midwives
- 10 mental health professionals
- 1 physical therapist
- Practitioners have served in 15 of 17 counties statewide, including rural, frontier, and urban underserved sites.
