Message from the Chair:
The Department of Internal Medicine, with over 40 faculty members, provides high-quality clinical care to our patients, both outpatients and inpatients. In addition, many of our faculty are involved in ongoing research. We are always seeking talented faculty members and at this time are particularly interested in those individuals with a basic science research interest. The University of Nevada School of Medicine has very strong basic science departments. This ensures that clinician-scientists in the Department of Internal Medicine can collaborate with cutting edge researchers. This collaboration is essential to be able to conduct research in an environment that is intellectually fertile and scientifically rigorous. It enhances the educational experience and research offerings for our residents and our medical students.
We have a very bright future. The Department of Internal Medicine plans an expansion of our residency program and will closely integrate with the basic science departments here in Reno, which will allow for greater educational and scholarly activities. We plan to increase our fellowship offerings in the sub-specialties of internal medicine. Our close working relationship with physicians in the local community and our programs to provide expert clinical consulting to physicians at some distance from Reno ensure that we meet the needs of the many diverse patients who we serve.
I am privileged to serve as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at such an exciting time. Not only is the department an outstanding one, but I look forward to the extraordinary opportunities to enhance patient care, teaching, and scholarship over the next several years.
