Welcome
to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University
of Nevada, Reno. We are a community of 10 faculty, 30 senior
scientists, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students and 15
support staff who are actively engaged in innovative research,
discovery and education.
Research
in the department focuses on immunology with an emphasis on
cancer biology and microbial pathogenesis with a particular
interest in emerging microbial infections and biodefense.
The
department has an embedded culture that values training and
education, be they in a formal classroom setting for professional
and graduate students, at the laboratory bench, or one-on-one
instruction and mentoring. This
is an exciting time in biomedical research. Immunology is paving
the way for treatment of diseases as diverse as cancer, Alzheimer’s
disease, autoimmunity and transplantation. New microbes are
being discovered, and we are finding new relationships between
the microbial world and an array of human diseases.
Take
the opportunity to visit our site and view our contributions
and your opportunities as we build the future in microbiology
and immunology.
