Instructions for Visiting Students VISITING STUDENTS FROM AAMC/LCME ACCREDITED UNIVERSITIES: Beginning with academic year 2009-10, the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSoM) will receive visiting student applications through VSAS, the new Visiting Student Application Service. To apply, please complete and submit a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates. Required documents which can be uploaded to VSAS are your photograph, your medical school transcript, and proof of current immunizations, including a Hepatitis B titer and a TB test done within one year of the date of your requested rotation. A curriculum vitae is also required for certain electives, as will be noted in the VSAS database comments. Step 1 scores, background check results, and a $100.00 non-refundable application fee must be mailed, as VSAS is not currently capable of uploading/processing these items. Application for UNSoM Reno electives Application for UNSoM as Vegas electives Processing of visiting student applications will begin after May 15th. You will be notified by the Office of Medical Education upon approval of your application. The clinical department will then provide you with information specific to your elective rotation, i.e. when, where and to whom you should report.
No student stipends are available. The University of Nevada School of Medicine will give no credit to visiting students. Evaluation of the student's performance will be made using the evaluation form provided by the visiting student's medical school. This will be forwarded to the student's medical school upon completion of the elective. Arrangements for housing and meals must be made by the student. However, information may be obtained through the off campus housing web site at www.reslife.unr.edu/och for students coming to Reno. In order to maintain a quality learning environment, the number of visiting students accepted into any elective rotation will be determined by the University of Nevada School of Medicine in its sole discretion.
