Department of Pathology
and Laboratory Medicine
The Pathology Department is committed to research and service, and excellence in the teaching of pathology to second-year medical students.
TEACHING - General pathology, organ pathology, and laboratory medicine are incorporated in a year-long course which focuses upon the pathophysiology of diseases.
RESEARCH - Areas of research include studies in cytogenetics and the history of medicine. (See our history of medicine page).
SERVICE - The State Public Health Laboratory, a division in this department, is responsible for diagnosing communicable diseases and identifying biological and chemical agents contaminating products used by the public. The department of pathology also provides surgical pathology services.
