Research Interests

A wide array of interests in ion chanels and signalling in heart and skeletal muscle. Research has included characterization of ryanodine receptors, intracellular calcium release channels, and their role in excitation-contraction coupling. The human sheep xenograft model provides a system to look at engraftment of human stem cells in a large mammal. Also, studies of engraftment of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) in the heart showed that hMSC engraft at high levels in the Purkinje fiber conduction system of the ventricles. Current reserch includes the biochemical characterization of the chloride channel ClC3 in heart.
