Research Interests
My laboratory is interested in unravelling the properties and function of ion channels and electrogenic ion transport systems in the control of vascular tone and cardiac excitation-contraction coupling. In collaboration with several investigators associated with the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and the Departments of Pharmacology and Physiology and Cell Biology, using a wide array of electrophysiological (classical intracellular recording and patch clamp techniques), quantitative fluorescence (Indo-1 and Fura-2 fluorescence) and more recently of biochemical (Immunocytochemistry, Western Blot, Enzyme Assays) and molecular biological (cloning and expression of ion channel proteins) techniques, our recent efforts have mainly focussed on the signalling pathways involved in the regulation of Ca2+-activated Cl- channels in both cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells.
