UNSOM Prospective Applicants: Admissions Information: Early Decision Program
Purpose
Allow students to pick their first-choice school and receive an early decision regarding admission. Students who apply early decision can apply to only one school and state specifically that the University of Nevada School of Medicine is their choice. If selected for admission under the early decision policy, the student cannot apply to other schools and must come to the University of Nevada. This program is offered to in-state and out-of-state applicants.
Those students who apply, but are not selected under the early decision policy, will automatically be placed in the regular applicant pool and reconsidered at a later date. Such students will be notified in time to apply to other schools.
Criteria for application
- Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.5 average grade point
- Applicants must have a minimum of a 9.5 average MCAT.
- Graduate from undergraduate school by time of medical school matriculation.
- Complete a broad-based curriculum in college course work, demonstrating excellence in natural sciences, social sciences and humanities.
- Favorable consideration will be given to applicants who have had exposure to life experiences beyond their academic training, such as community service and work experience.
- Be a first time applicant to the University of Nevada School of Medicine
Deadlines
- Applicants must apply between June 1 and August 1 of the year preceding matriculation.
- Applicants must provide the school with all requested supplementary information no later than September 15.
- Interviews must be completed no later than September 25.
- Committee will notify applicants of a decision by October 1.
- Applicants must reply with a decision to attend within two weeks of receipt of their acceptance.
Number of students admitted by EDP
No more than five students will be admitted by the early decision process in any given year.
