An important part of the School of Medicine's educational and service mission, is providing physicians and healthcare services in rural Nevada. The Elko campus offers comprehensive clinical training for third year medical students in pediatrics, family medicine and internal medicine. The medical schools primary hospital partner is Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko. Medical students can also complete a 4-week clinical rural rotation to learn more about rural medicine in their 4th year of medical school.

Subsidized student housing is provided on the Elko campus for medical students completing training in the community.
