UNSOM Prospective Applicants: Degree Programs: M.D./Ph.D.
This combined degree program prepares students for a career in biomedical research. The program is customized to the student's interests. Applicants interested in the combined degree must first be accepted into medical school. During the second year of their medical education, students apply for admission into the combined program. Once accepted, students start the Ph.D. portion of their training after completion of Year II of medical school and passing Part I of the USMLE examination. Research training takes two to three years, and when completed, students return to complete Year III and IV of medical school, graduating with both degrees.
