UNSOM Prospective Applicants: Undergraduates: Nevadans Into Medicine

Nevadans Into Medicine is a week-long, residential program designed for undergraduate juniors and seniors to get prepared for the medical school admissions process. The program is funded by the School of Medicine. Students are competitively selected and the there is no charge to participants. All travel, food and program expenses are paid.
Applications will be available January 1.
The Program includes:
- Admissions preparation, including a sample MCAT, including analysis of individual student scores;
- Interactive sessions with experts in financial planning, the Dean for admissions, admissions committee members.
- Clinical experiences, including two full days of shadowing third year medical students and residents.
- Experience the main Reno campus and clinical campus in Las Vegas.
- One-on-one advising and strategizing to develop each student's admissions plan.
- Presentations from medical school faculty about medical specialty choices.
- Team building activities.
Who can apply?
- Students who are Nevada residents, or residents of one of the four western states with no medical schools (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska).
- Students who will be juniors or above in their class standing beginning in summer or fall 2008.
- Minimum overall college GPA of 3.2.
- Students of all backgrounds and ethnicities are eligible to apply. Students from groups underrepresented in medicine are encouraged to apply.
