UNSOM Prospective Applicants: Undergraduates: Science Partners


Please find below information announcing a special topics course for UNR students. This course is being offered in partnership with the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at UNR, and the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Students must apply and go through a program overview and brief interview before they can register for the course. The application deadline for Spring is January 28, 2009. Space is limited!

Science Partner - ChildrenBe a Science Partner!
Have fun teaching elementary kids hands-on science and earn three college credits in Biology 491, Chemistry 292, or Physics 493.

Requirements:

  • Sophomore or above
  • Have completed 3 core science courses with a letter grade of C or better
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Currently enrolled in a science course at UNR or TMCC
  • Provide an unofficial copy of your college transcripts

As a Science Partner, you will be required to spend a minimum of 4 hours per week. A maximum of three hours per week will be in an elementary school classroom between the hours of 9a - 3p, and a one-hour per week meeting with a faculty advisor. Students are also required to attend a 5-hour training workshop Saturday, January 31, 9:30a-2p. Lunch will be provided. Applications are due January 28, 2009. Eligible applicants will receive a brief program overview and interview with a faculty advisor.
