UNSOM Students: 4th Year Class: The Match

The Residency Match is the national process of pairing graduating medical students with residency programs. In their final year of medical school, senior students choose a specialty and then apply to residency programs across the country in that specialty. Each March students across the United States learn their "match." This is a day of celebration for students and for their faculty.

UNSOM students have all obtained top residency programs and results are available.

The Office of Student Affairs coordinates the Match process for all seniors. A series of workshops are held during spring semester for all third year students. These workshops include:

January:
Preparing for Year IV Students learn how to plan their fourth year schedule, including out-of-state electives; faculty advisor process and other information for students about senior year.

March/April:
Senior Student Panel Recently matched seniors share their wisdom about the match process with third year students.

May:
Preparing a CV and Personal Statement.

June:
Residency Match: Nuts and Bolts Overview of the matching process, including Medical Student Performance Evaluation; Electronic Residency Matching (ERAS) application service, National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) matching service and other information.
