Students in Years III and IV are matched with a Clinical Mentor. Clinical Mentors, who are faculty or community physicians in student-selected specialties, help students:
- make specialty decisions
- explore career options and preferences
- help prioritize what is important in specialty choice
- analyze competiveness for your specialty choice
- assist at critical decision points during Years III and IV
The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs coordinates the program, which kicks-off during the Transition to Clinical Medicine Course held before the start of third year.
Mentors and clinicians will discuss clinical experiences, development of physician identity, and career plans as students begin the specialty decision-making process.
Students and mentors will have a minimum of two meetings during the student's third year.
