UNSOM Students: Financial Planning: Emergency Loans
Emergency Loan Program
Medical students are eligible to apply for a no-interest, emergency loan up to $2,000. The School of Medicine is fortunate to be able to offer to medical students an emergency loan program for those who are experiencing financial difficulty.
- The agreement must be signed by the student and the emergency loan program representative.
- A maximum of $2,000 may be borrowed.
- Previous loans must be re-paid before new loans can be approved.
- All loans must be repaid within the agreed upon 3 month (90 day) deadline.
- If at any time the agreed upon repayment plan becomes more than 30 days past due, an automatic hold will be placed on the student's university record and the loan must be repaid in full before the hold is released.
Repayment
- If at the end of the 90-day period the loan is not repaid, a repayment plan must be set up. If a repayment plan is not in place by that time, an automatic hold will be placed on the student's university record. This will prevent registration, releasing of transcripts, distribution of diplomas, etc.
- Students may pay their loans in either the Reno or Las Vegas Offices of Student Affairs. Students can pay by check or credit/debit card.
