UNSOM Students: Financial Planning: Scholarships
The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs coordinates the awarding and allocation of scholarships, most of which are made possible through the generosity of friends and supporters of the School of Medicine. Merit-based scholarships are awarded to incoming students by the Admissions Selection Committee, and are based on academic achievement. The scholarships generally cover the first year of resident tuition.
Recipients are notified of the scholarship award when they are notified of acceptance to the School of Medicine. There is not a separate application required for merit-based scholarships. The application process for need-based scholarships begins when students are admitted to the medical school. All students are encouraged to apply; almost 80% of Nevada's students qualify for a need-based scholarship. Continuing students are required to apply each January for the following academic year to be considered for the available funds.
