UNSOM Students: Financial Planning: Scholarships
Merit Based Scholarships:*
Merit-based scholarships are awarded to incoming students by the Admissions Selection Committee, and are based on academic achievement. The scholarships generally cover the first year of resident tuition.
There is not a separate application required for merit-based scholarships. Recipients are notified of the scholarship award by the School of Medicine.
Need Based Scholarships:*
The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs coordinates the awarding and allocation of scholarships, most of which are made possible through the generosity of friends and supporters of the School of Medicine. All students are encouraged to apply; almost 80% of Nevada's students qualify for a need-based scholarship.
Notification of the application process for need-based scholarships begins when students are admitted to the medical school. Continuing students are required to apply each year for the following academic year to be considered for the available funds
The Office of Admissions & Student Affairs will send out need-based scholarship information and application to continuing medical students in January/February. Application Deadline will be indicated on the application.
