UNSOM Students: Student Life: Special Events: White Coat Ceremony


The Arnold P. Gold Foundation White Coat Ceremony welcomes entering medical students and helps establish a psychological contract for the practice of medicine. Students are initiated into the profession during the Annual White Coat Ceremony, before even beginning coursework. The Ceremony welcomes entering medical students to Nevada's medical school and helps establish the professional and psychological contract for the practice of medicine. The event emphasizes the importance of compassionate care for the patient as well as scientific proficiency.

Students are welcomed by the Vice President of Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine, the University of Nevada, Reno President and respected leaders who represent the value system of the school. Students are cloaked in their first white coats by the Dean and the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs.

During the ceremony, the deans and faculty of the School of Medicine will present you with your first white coat, symbolizing your transition into the profession of medicine.The University of Nevada School of Medicine held its first Ceremony in 1996 for the graduating class of 2000.
