Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA)
Alpha Omega Alpha is a national honor medical society; a chapter was established in Nevada in 1985. The society recognizes and perpetuates excellence in the medical profession.

American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
Family physicians are those who practice the specialty of family medicine. Training and experience qualify them to practice in several fields of medicine and surgery, with particular emphasis on the family unit. The AAFP exists to provide students with access to information regarding a career in family medicine. Annual dues of $5 are paid for students by the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians. Membership includes a subscription to the AAFP monthly journal. Information about residencies, national conferences, etc., is also available through the AAFP student representative.

American Medical Association - Medical Student Section (AMA)
The AMA allows students to join through a direct membership option. The major benefits to medical students are subscriptions to JAMA and American Medical News, which are included in the $15 membership fee. Other benefits are free AMA seminars, conferences, CME meetings, practice workshops, seminars, low cost insurance and a placement service. Indirect benefits include educational experiences and interactions with students at other schools. Further information can be obtained by writing to the AMA at 535 N. Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL 60610. There is a Nevada chapter of the AMA MSS which sends a delegate to the regional and national AMA meetings. The chapter will hold meetings and will cooperate with the Nevada State Medical Association Student Chapter.
American Medical Student Association (AMSA)
The American Medical Student Association is a nationwide student organization dedicated to the improvement of medical education, health care and health care delivery so that health care may be more personal and holistic in a world of increasing technology and efficiency. AMSA is the largest independent medical student organization. AMSA membership offers benefits to all students, including The New Physician magazine, task force newsletters, workshops and conventions, local project grants for health related community projects, insurance plans, and discounts on many publications. The local chapter of AMSA annually prepares a handbook for the clinical years and sponsors periodic lunchtime seminars. AMSA will appeal especially to those who wish to increase their autonomy as students or who would like to become more active in expressing their concern for health related community and political issues.
American Medical Women's Association (AMWA)
The American Medical Women's Association is a national organization interested in progress in medical science; in humanism in the act and service of practicing medicine; in education; and in cooperation with medical and health organizations in all allied health fields. Membership is open to all medical students, men and women. Activities in the Nevada chapter during the past year included open discussions on topics ranging from personal problems to areas of medicine where reform is needed, instruction in pelvic examinations by an F.N.P., and a three part seminar on women in medicine. All interested students are invited to join this national service organization. Membership is free.
Associated Students of the University of Nevada School of Medicine(ASUNSOM)
American College of Physicians
A national organization of internists. This is thel argest medical-specialty organization in the US with a membership of 132,000 and includes internists, subspecialists, medical students, residents and fellows. More information on Nevada's Chapter is available. Medical students can join for free and the chapter also has a Medical Student Council and offers the opportunities for students to participate in scientific poster presentations and state, regional and national meetings.
