School of Medicine's clinic dates announced for August
Free medical care targets uninsured populations
RENO, Nev.—The University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Student Outreach Clinics for August 2009 have been announced for the following dates: a general clinic will be held on August 22 from 8 a.m. to noon and a women’s clinic will be held Aug. 24 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Student Outreach Clinics are a free service providing much needed care for Washoe County’s medically uninsured population. General clinics offer physicals for work or school, EKGs, blood pressure monitoring, referrals and selected lab services at discounted fees. Women’s clinics offer pregnancy testing, Pap smears, gynecological exams, breast exams, STD testing and mammogram referrals.
Small fees averaging between $5 and $20 may apply to certain diagnostic services and patients are recommended to call ahead to learn more about blood services.
Under the direct supervision of licensed faculty physicians, medical students from the University of Nevada School of Medicine offer monthly Student Outreach Clinics which provide free care. No appointment is necessary for clinic patients who are seen on a first come, first served basis. Early arrival is recommended. Spanish translators are available as needed.
Clinics are held at University Health System’s Family Medicine Center, located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus just north of Mackay Stadium off of North Virginia Street.
