RENO, Nev.— As the Baby Boomer generation begins to reach into their golden years, it may fall to the younger generations, their children and grandchildren, to look after them and provide care. Or, Baby Boomers may now be caring for their siblings or parents. This can prove to be an unnerving situation for which many may not feel prepared. Join the Sanford Center for Aging, Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Nevada Geriatric Education Center (a joint program between the Sanford Center for Aging and the University of Nevada School of Medicine) for a free workshop on caring for older adults on Thursday Oct. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Eureka Senior Center, 20 West Gold Street in Eureka, Nev. The workshop will cover finding aging and disability resources on the Internet, what to ask and how to ask it to better assess a senior’s needs and how to work effectively with older adults experiencing the loss of a family member or loved one. The workshop is designed for friends and family members caring for elders as well as professional caregivers. This program is free of charge for those who submit registrations by Oct. 10 on a space available basis. Registration includes program materials. Contact Diann Jones at (775)682-8470 or email: dsjones@medicine.nevada.edu to register. |
