Free elder care training offered in Battle Mountain,
Winnemucca and Lovelock this month

RENO, Nev.—Are you caring for an older adult and wish you knew more? Caring for elders can prove to be an unnerving situation for which many may not feel prepared.

          The Nevada Geriatric Education Center (a joint program of the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the Sanford Center for Aging) and the Aging and Disability Services Division will hold free workshops this month in Battle Mountain, Winnemucca and Lovelock according to the following schedule:

          • Battle Mountain. Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 12:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Battle Mountain General Hospital, 535 S. Humboldt Street in the clinic education room. Contact Sandi Smith, (775)635-5311 at the Battle Mountain Senior Center if you need someone to care for your loved one while you attend the training. Advanced registration for this service is required.


           • Winnemucca. Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Humboldt General Hospital, 118 East Haskell Street.


           • Lovelock. Thursday, Sept. 24 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Pershing County Community Center, 820 Sixth Street.

          Topics will include tips for managing multiple medications, use and misuse of medication to manage behavior in persons with dementia and planning for incompetency and laws protecting persons with dementia.

          Continuing education units are available for long-term care administrators, nurses and social workers for 3.0 hours. Cost for continuing education units is $15.
