School of Medicine, University Health System announce
employees of the year

LAS VEGAS/RENO, Nev.— The University of Nevada School of Medicine and University Health System, its clinical practice, recently announced their employees of the year for 2008.

Luci Young, assistant to David Lupan, Ph.D., senior associate dean for basic science and research, was honored as the School of Medicine’s Dean’s Star winner in Reno while Marsha Gallo, Department of Internal Medicine, was recognized as the School’s Dean’s Star winner for Las Vegas. Isela Rico-Martinez, Department of Surgery, was named the University Health System employee of the year.

The School of Medicine and University Health System annually honor outstanding employees at holiday luncheons or assemblies.


As the state’s only public medical school, the University of Nevada School of Medicine has been a leader in healthcare, medical education and research in Nevada since 1969. The School of Medicine includes 16 clinical departments including family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, surgery, and psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and five nationally recognized departments in basic science including microbiology and biomedical engineering.
