School of Medicine faculty receive honors from |
Physicians in Reno, Las Vegas recognized at membership meeting |

RENO/LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Four practicing physicians from University Health System, the clinical practice of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, were honored Wednesday by the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians (NAFP) for their accomplishments in patient healthcare. Daniel R. Spogen, M.D., professor and chair of the School’s Department of Family and Community Medicine in Reno, was honored as the 2007 Northern Nevada Family Physician of the Year. Michael Bloch, M.D., an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, received the 2007 Northern Nevada Consultant of the Year award. In Las Vegas, Donald Roberts, M.D., assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, was honored as the Southern Nevada Consultant of the Year while James Lenhart, M.D., former professor and vice dean of the School of Medicine who recently joined the University of Nevada Health Sciences System as vice chancellor of academic affairs and external relations, earned the 2007 Southern Nevada Family Physician of the Year award. In addition, several School of Medicine physicians were named to the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians’ board of directors for 2007-2008. They are: Cathy Endo, M.D., a physician at the University Student Health Center in Reno, president; Catherine McCarthy, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in Reno, northern director; Tom Hunt, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in Las Vegas, southern director; Spogen, delegate; and Bruce Bannister, D.O., with the Department of Family and Community Medicine in Reno, delegate. The awards were presented at the annual NAFP membership meeting held in Reno on Sept. 12. The purpose of the NAFP is to assist its members, family physicians practicing in the state of Nevada, in providing the highest quality of care for their patients. |
As the state’s only public medical school, the University of Nevada School of Medicine has been meeting statewide healthcare, educational, and clinical needs since 1969.
