Jennifer Kimmel, M.D. honored during Women of Achievement luncheon
RENO, Nev. –Jennifer Kimmel, M.D., associate dean of medical education and professor of internal medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, was honored yesterday for her service to community and commitment to education during the Nevada Women’s Fund 16th Annual Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon celebration.
Kimmel, who has served as a member of the school’s faculty for eight years, was one of 95 women recognized for their empowerment efforts in career or community. At the event, local corporations sponsor and publicly applaud individual women within their organizations for their career and personal achievements.
“I am truly honored to receive this distinction from the Nevada Women’s Fund,” said Kimmel, who is also a 1993 graduate of the School of Medicine. “The organization provides a great service for our community and I am proud to share this award with other women who are making a difference.”
In addition to Kimmel’s “Women of Achievement” award, another member of the School of Medicine was also honored during Thursday’s festivities. Melanie Watkins, M.D., a resident in the School of Medicine’s psychiatry department, served as a speaker during the Nevada Women’s Fund breakfast which was held for “Women of Achievement” honorees.
Funds raised from the Salute to Women of Achievement event go toward supporting the organization’s philanthropic efforts including the growth of scholarship and grants programs.
