Student Outreach Clinic moves to new location

Free general and children’s clinics to be provided at University Health System

Family Medicine Clinic in Reno

 

RENO, Nev. –The Student Outreach Clinic, a free service providing much needed care for Washoe County’s medically underserved population, is moving locations.  Beginning July 7, the general and children’s clinic will move from the Salvation Army, located at 1931 Sutro Street, to University Health System’s Family Medicine Clinic, located off North Virginia Street on the University of Nevada, Reno campus just north of Mackay Stadium.

 

Under the direct supervision of licensed faculty physicians, medical students from the University of Nevada School of Medicine offer monthly Student Outreach Clinics which provide free general, children’s and women’s care.  No insurance or appointment is necessary for clinic patients who are seen on a first come, first served basis.  Each clinic offers complete physical examinations and referral services.  The children’s clinic provides school physicals and physicals for the Head Start program.  The women’s clinic provides pap smears, pregnancy counseling and sexually transmitted disease counseling. 

 

Starting in July, the clinics will be able to provide blood work at a reduced cost.  This discounted service runs an average of between $5 and $20.  Patients are recommended to call ahead to learn more about blood services.

 

The next general and children’s clinic will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 7.  Other scheduled dates include:  Saturday, August 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday, September 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

The next women’s clinic, which will remain at the School of Medicine’s faculty physician practice offices located on the third floor at 1500 East Second Street, will be held in September.
