University of Nevada School of Medicine offers Community Health Day

LAS VEGAS, Nev.— “Something for Everyone” is the theme for the University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Community Health Day scheduled for November 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

University Health System, the clinical practice of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, will host the event at the Family Medicine Clinic located at 2410 Fire Mesa Street (between Buffalo and Tenaya Way) in Las Vegas.

Free flu shots for the first 100 visitors will be provided. Thereafter flu shots will be available for $20. Free health screenings for hypertension, hearing, body mass index, obesity, and free chair massages will be available. Guests will learn more about diabetes, obesity and healthy lifestyle choices, pediatrics, smoking cessation programs, organ donation, women’s health issues and autism. Representatives from World Doc Foundation, AARP, RESEP, American Lung Association, Senior Support Services, and Lili Claire Foundation will be on hand to provide information about their organizations.

Kids can play in a bounce house and take part in a fitness course. Las Vegas Police and Fire will attend, as will McGruff the Crime Dog and COSMO, the Las Vegas 51’s mascot. Retinal scans for children will be offered by Metro Police Department.

Participating media include Greenspun Media, KVMY/KVCM Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Israelite. KDOX Radio Fox News 1280 will be broadcasting their morning programming live from the site.

Healthy refreshments will be provided Caffe Gelato, COSTCO, Great Harvest Bread Company, and Diabetic Delights. In addition, door prizes will be provided.
