University of Nevada School of Medicine names new education coordinator to Division of Interdisciplinary Medical Education

RENO, Nev.—University of Nevada, Reno alum Amy McFarland, MPH is the most recent faculty addition to the University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Division of Interdisciplinary Medical Education.

In her new role, McFarland is responsible for the recruitment and retention of the school’s community based adjunct clinical faculty. Specifically, McFarland’s efforts focus on gaining larger participation from community physicians in the Patient Care I & II courses as well as the Summer Preceptorship program.

Prior to joining the School of Medicine, McFarland worked for the Nevada State Health Division within the Bureau of Community Health and Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. She also brings a wealth of clinical knowledge to her new role having served 10 years as a physical therapist assistant. In addition to her administrative and clinical experience, McFarland has participated in numerous research projects including a University of Nevada study of osteoporosis as well as working as a graduate assistant within the university’s exercise physiology laboratory.

McFarland received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Ecology from the University of Nevada, Reno and her Masters in Public Health from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health. She is the wife of Patrick McFarland and mother of 6-month old Kaylee.

As the state’s only public medical school, the University of Nevada School of Medicine has been meeting statewide healthcare, educational, and clinical needs since 1969. The School of Medicine encompasses 16 clinical medical education departments, including Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Internal Medicine, and Surgery, as well as ten nationally-recognized departments within basic science including microbiology and biomedical engineering. As the largest multi-specialty healthcare focus within the state, the School of Medicine employs more than 185 doctors who both teach and practice medicine throughout Nevada. The school’s statewide faculty physician practice groups have a combined 25 different medical specialties with seven physician practice offices located in the Reno-Sparks area and five physician offices located in Las Vegas.
