School of Medicine offers training for caregivers of those suffering from dementia

Workshops offered in Reno with interactive video to rural sites

RENO, Nev.— The Sanford Center for Aging, the Nevada State Aging and Disability Services Division and the Nevada Geriatric Education Center (a joint program between the Sanford Center for Aging and the University of Nevada School of Medicine) will hold two workshops for caregivers of those suffering from dementia in Reno on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 1 to 4:45 p.m. and again on Friday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

The November 17 workshop will be held at Truckee Meadows Community College, Redfield Campus, Room 103, located at 18600 Wedge Parkway in Reno. The December 4 workshop will take place at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Pennington Medical Education Building, Room 214, located at 1664 N. Virginia Street on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.


These workshops will offer tips for managing multiple medications, use and misuse of medication to manage persons with dementia, planning for incompetency and laws protecting persons with dementia. Workshops are intended for anyone caring for elders and continuing education units are available for a nominal fee.


This training will also be available via interactive video at the following locations: Austin High School in Austin, Griswold Hall, room 21 in Elko; the Cooperative Extension in Eureka, Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville, Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne, Nye Cooperative Extension in Pahrump and Nye Regional Medical Clinic in Tonopah.
