LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas is the largest city in one of the fastest growing states in the nation. With more than two million residents and 28 million visitors to the city each year, Las Vegas is renowned as an entertainment capital and is a convention destination for many national and international organizations. Though rapidly becoming a metropolis, Las Vegas still maintains its small town friendliness.

While famous for its nightlife, Las Vegas also offers theatre, music and dance companies, including the nationally recognized Nevada Dance Theatre. Several museums, art galleries and libraries contribute to cultural opportunities in Las Vegas. The world famous downtown Las Vegas has undergone a lavish redevelopment project called the "Fremont Street Experience" to beautify the historic district.

Las Vegas offers many varieties of outdoor recreation, from skiing and hunting to fishing and boating at nearby points of interest such as Mount Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire and Lake Mead. In addition, Hoover Dam is just a short drive from Las Vegas. Low humidity and 310 days of sunshine each year create an ideal outdoor environment.

The Las Vegas community is thriving. The Clark County School District is currently ranked ninth largest in the United States with more than 227 schools, and has implemented a wide range of programs in order to meet its students' needs. Higher education is provided by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Clark County Community College, and Desert Research Institute.

Sporting enthusiasts can cheer for a variety of teams including minor league baseball, collegiate football, baseball, soccer, and basketball. Other events include Indy Car Racing, NASCAR Racing and NHRA Drag Racing. The National Finals Rodeo calls Las Vegas home each December for roping, riding and barrel racing competitions.

In Las Vegas, medicine is growing with the community. The large population base, in addition to the millions of visitors and citizens of nearby communities, offers an ideal environment to practice medicine. In addition to the full-time faculty, there is a large number of physicians in the Las Vegas area who have clinical faculty appointments and help instruct both medical students and residents.
