DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS LAS VEGAS: APPLICATION PROCESS


The University of Nevada Pediatric Residency accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) only and cannot accept applications in any other format. A complete application consists of the standard ERAS application package as well as related supporting documents including Dean's Letter or equivalent, medical school transcript, a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation, a detailed education and work history, personal statement, USMLE or COMLEX transcripts, passport-sized photograph and ECFMG certificate (if applicable). 

Applications are accepted and reviewed beginning in September and interviews are conducted from October through DecemberJanuary dates may be available as needed. Applicants meeting interview criteria set forth by the recruitment committee are sent invitations as soon as their applications have been reviewed and processed. Interview dates are available to invited candidates on a first come, first serve basis. We maintain a cancellation/waiting list for all dates and can sometimes accommodate requests for dates previously filled if space subsequently becomes available. 
We accept 12 categorical interns each year.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • All candidates must successfully complete USMLE Step I and both USMLE Step II CK AND CSA to be eligible to enroll in the residency program.  COMLEX tests are accepted in lieu of USMLE for DO candidates.
  • No more than five years can have elapsed since last formal training (medical school training, residency or fellowship) or the individual MUST have a full unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States.
  • Applicants must have the requisite education and certification to secure a restricted license in the State of NV for residency training AND must be eligible for full unrestricted licensure in the State of NV following graduation from the residency.   • US Graduates: USMLE or COMLEX step 1 success in ≤3 attempts to apply. USMLE or COMLEX step 2 passed in ≤3 attempts prior to the start of residency.
  • International Medical Graduates:
    • U.S. clinical experience and U.S. letters of recommendation are required
    • U.S. citizenship, Employment Authorization Document, U.S. permanent residency status, J-1 Visa or refugee status.
    • USMLE 1 and 2 passed in ≤3 attempts each.  Applicants with scores >  200 are given highest priority.
    • ECFMG certificate or eligibility if applicant has not graduated from medical school at time of application
