Catherine McCarthy M.D. is a graduate of the Family Medicine Residency training program at University of Nevada, Reno. She is currently an assistant professor, Director of the Obstetrics Fellowship and Associate Residency Director at the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. McCarthy teaches at the medical school and is involved in research projects involving the Student Outreach (free) Clinic, run by first and second year medical students. Dr. McCarthy is a member of the Biomedical IRB, the Emergency Operations Committee and the Scholarship Committee. She is also on the Board of Trustees for the Foundation of the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians.

Professional Experience
After graduating from Residency, Dr. McCarthy has combined her love of
community medicine with her medical practice by working as an emergency room
physician in rural California and as faculty in the University of Nevada School
of Medicine Family and Community Medicine Department. She currently heads
the rural obstetrics program.
Personal
Dr Catherine McCarthy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1969.
She moved to San Francisco in 1986 to attend college at San Francisco State
University. While attending SF State she was employed as a bartender and
manager of a San Francisco nightclub, The Last Day Saloon. For medical
school Dr McCarthy relocated to the lush island of Grenada and then St Vincent
and the Grenadines, where she became interested in sailing. She completed
her clinical years of medical school in London, California and Guyana.
During residency at University of Nevada, Reno she developed an interest in
obstetrics and emergency medicine. She now enjoys her time away from
medicine sailing in Lake Tahoe in the summer and skiing in the winter.
