Please briefly describe your current scope of practice, including location:
Residency Program Director and Occupational Medicine Division Director at the University of Utah Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health Department Family and Preventive Medicine.
Please tell us how our residency helped prepare you for your practice:
The Family Medicine Residency at UNR provided me a solid foundation in the clinical practice of family medicine. The academic and clinical departments at UNR allow development of specialization within Family Medicine to direct a career path of the individuals' interest.
Please mention a few things about your residency experience that made it special for you:
The people in the department are wonderful individuals who support the education of residents. The facilities are modern and up to date. The medical community is strongly supportive of residents and gives excellent training opportunities for residents.
Please mention something that was particularly fun during your residency:
The location of the program is ideal for anyone with interest in outdoor sport activities. The access to skiing, climbing, biking and hiking from Reno is fantastic. With the limited time available in residency training, this ability to explore and enjoy the outdoors in time off service is invaluable.
Lastly, please tell us something about yourself or family or activities that you would like to share.
Our only child was born to my wife and I at Washoe Medical Center while I was a resident on the OB service - her APGARS were "11"!
Please mention any other special recollections you have of you residency that you would like to share with our prospective applicants.
The program fosters a wonderful sense of community among the residents, faculty and staff. And most importantly, Karen Selbach was a wonderful caring mother to all the young residents as we developed our skills and found our way in medicine.
