Introduction
This one-year ACGME Accredited Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is affiliated with the University of Nevada Student Health Center, the Department of Family and Community Medicine, the University of Nevada Athletic Department and Nevada Physical Therapy. The program provides training in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions specific to athletes and in exercising individuals. Successful completion of the fellowship allows the resident to be eligible to apply for the CAQ in Sports Medicine. Fellowship director is Dr. Carol Scott. Please contact us for further information:

Requirements
Successful applicants must qualify for Board Certification in Family Medicine and licensure in the state of Nevada. Applicants must submit a letter of interest, medical school transcripts, copies of USMLE scores, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine application form located at www.amssm.org and the names of three individuals qualified to write letters of recommendation on their behalf to be considered for the fellowship. A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s residency Program Director is also required. All application materials must be received no later than October 1.

Location
Located in Reno, NV the fellowship training sites are located in the University of Nevada, Reno Student Health Center, the University of Nevada School of Medicine Family Medicine Center, the University of Nevada Athletic Department, and Nevada Physical Therapy. Opportunities to work in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe are available during the winter ski season.

Sports Medicine Experiences
The fellowship will include experience working with Division I athletes at the University of Nevada, high school athletes, athletes with disabilities and aging athletes. It will include scuba diving at Lake Tahoe, the Reno Rodeo rotation and Winter Sports rotations at Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley, USA.
There are a number of rotations with local area physicians in multiple specialties.
Didactic teaching with presentations, textbooks and articles occurs weekly. A Sports Medicine Journal Club and Sports Medicine lectures are scheduled monthly.
Research is required and opportunities are available. The Sports Medicine fellow will attend the AMSSM Research Conference and the Annual AMSSM Conference.

The Sports Medicine fellow will work at the UNR Student Health Center clinic. This busy clinic sees 24,000 patients a year with many sport and exercise related visits.
Family Medicine Clinic
Fellows will spend one half day in a family practice continuity clinic in the Family Medicine Center and one half day in the FMC Sports Medicine clinic.
University of Nevada, Sports Medicine Complex
The Sports Medicine Complex, located next to Cashell Fieldhouse, is one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art complex that offers Nevada student-athletes excellent sports care. This serves as a treatment center for Nevada student-athletes and a diagnostic/therapy center for area residents.
