I am deeply honored to have been nominated by the Faculty Senate and the
Staff Employee's Council for the position of Interim President of UNR. On reflection,
after meeting with Chancellor James Rogers, Chair Brent Whipple and Vice-Chair
Dorothy Gallagher of the Board of Regents, I realized that my commitment to
the University of Nevada School of Medicine - its faculty, staff, students
and resident physicians- is far too important a mission to allow anything short
of my full commitment and attention. The medical school's role in advancing
health care in Nevada must come first.
I have complete confidence in the Chancellor and Regents and in their open, inclusive
process to identify a strong and dedicated interim president who will continue
the progress we have made during President Lilley's tenure, and to lead us
during the important tasks we face in the coming months.
Let me express my sincerest appreciation to the members of the university community for their confidence in my leadership abilities, and pledge to rededicate my efforts to the benefit of the school of medicine and the people of Nevada.
